Event Planning Expertise

In planning and producing events we work with a lot of intangibles to manifest the dream:

  • ideas
  • values
  • vision
  • energy
  • strategy and
  • stakeholder expectations

The tangible factors needed to anchor the intangibles, that can be managed are the structures of:

  • time
  • budget and resources (team)
  • place.

It's a capacity building process. The number and quality of the relationships developed is often reflected by the quality of the event.

Defining objectives and scope at the outset will enable an approach that's strategic to deliver the event on time, on target and on budget.

As event specialists, we have experience in planning and producing a broad range of projects and events for diverse clients, including:

  • annual meetings
  • fundraising events
  • conferences
  • healthcare and lifestyle expos
  • international arts festivals
  • community eco festivals
  • community engagement campaigns
  • international camps
  • weddings and private family affairs

Girl Guides of Canada

Julia is a strategic thinker who worked effectively with a large team of volunteers and staff to produce a once in a lifetime experience for the girls and adults who attended. Under Julia’s leadership, many innovations were introduced which took advantage of available technology. Julia’s strengths lie in creating a vision for the end product and putting the pieces in place to get there. Julia is an effective team builder who brings people together to work effectively to achieve results. The camp was a very successful event, thanks to Julia’s ability to stay on top of the many facets of camp planning and production.

Linda Crawford, Executive Manager, Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada

Mississauga International Children’s Festival 2004, a 4-day inter-disciplinary arts festival

Julia and her associates made it happen in the eleventh hour under tremendous disadvantages. Not only was she able to step in and pick up previous relationships, she pulled the festival out of the fire. Under her direction media sponsorship was enhanced and the festival was profitable. She has tremendous leadership skills, entrepreneurial passion, a vision of the future and an ability to quarterback and assemble a team of players to get the job done. We were grateful to Julia von Flotow for positioning the festival for future growth.

Raymond Soroka, Planned Insurance Estates, President, Mississauga International Children’s Festival

Julia has sound knowledge of all aspects of event planning and management and is able to bring additional resources as required. Under Julia’s guidance, our revenues increased by 28% during a very challenging financial period for many charitable organizations. Julia and her team are tireless workers who can efficiently and effectively assess the requirements of an organization and bring the right resources to bear in order to get the job done on time and on budget.

Paul Haber, mds proteomics; Past Treasurer, Mississauga International Children’s Festival

6 Eco Festivals, an Eco Trade Conference, environmental educational programs and Don River Clean Up Campaigns for Festive Earth Society, a non-profit arts and environment organization she founded and operated from 1998 to 2002 to promote conscious and sustainable lifestyle choices.

The Festive Earth Spring Fair was a success even beyond our expectations….Reports suggest that the involvement of the community went beyond projected levels, with our commercial partners having trouble rising to the demand for goods and services from those who attended the event…. Thank you for an outstanding event and a very pleasurable afternoon.

Tom McElroy, Sr. Scientist Environment Canada; President, Festive Earth Society

Puppetry Arts Festival 1994

Julia came into a small organization and lent her tremendous vision and energy to its process…. Sources and levels of government support significantly increased during her tenure. …. Julia’s communication and community relations skills are a major strength. Her natural warmth and exuberance draws people towards the projects she engages in.

Her leadership in developing and producing our first annual Puppetry Arts Festival was essential to its success. Her vision, enthusiasm and strength of personality are inspiring to those around her.

Ruth Danziger, President, Ontario Puppetry Association

Figuratively Speaking, 1990

The thoughtful planning and preparation from concept to completion of our tenth anniversary feature exhibition, Figuratively Speaking bespeaks a high quality of professionalism throughout. Thanks to you and your team we have realized a project of museum stature honouring puppeteers from the pioneering days of this art in Ontario to the present time.

Roy Hughes, Chairman, The Puppet Centre

Earth Day Festivals 1991 & 1992

Three years ago, the Earth Festival existed only in cold-concept. Your vision and direction took that concept and turned it into a majestic pageant that has entertained thousands of children and families alike. Your ability to plan and execute was in part responsible for the successful fundraising initiative attached to the Earth Festival, the EarthWalk, which saw $46,000 raised for four non profit organizations. To sum up – your extraordinary talent has made the Earth Festival a successful, very special event.

Peter Ehrlich, Overture Communications Inc., Nov. 1992.

Tower of Babel for Theatr DRAK, Czeck Republic, 1991

As assistant director, Julia manifested profound knowledge of the subject…Her ability of metaphorical vision manifested itself not only in literary form, but also in a number of detail stimuli that were accepted by the whole creative team and realized on stage. Similarly meaningful was her role in documenting the whole complex and demanding process. Julia’s participation in the project had great impact on the final performance … she contributed highly to strengthening of contacts between the Czech and Canadian cultures

Prof. Josef Krofta Head, School for Open Forms and Puppet Theatre D.A.M.U.; Artistic Director, DRAK
